Developing an IoT enabled Fleet Tracking solution Using our standard 2G/3G/4G GPS devices we needed to create a unique solution to reduce mining theft in the Nigerian Sector. The device should be sending two kinds of alerts Unscheduled stoppage and an Anti-theft alarm for device disconnection. The data can be visualized on the Dashboard and in-app using google maps SDK.
The client is well known in Nigeria and owns 100+ mining trucks. The trucks are essentially given on contract to some mining company. The truck owner is the responsible person in terms of delivering goods from Nigeria to Other country’s border ensuring no mining theft happens in between the route defined.
The client came with an initial problem to solve which was “How can I stop mining theft ?”. After understanding how the client works in that sector we have provided him the Fleet management solution which he can own permanently and is scalable with his fleet.
He wanted the real-time tracking solution which can give him real-time location updates every 10 minutes location updates, unscheduled stoppage alerts, anti-theft alarms for someone removing the device forcefully, Vehicle Speed, Trip Start Time, Trip End Time, Vehicle Idle Time.
The IoT team and designing team wanted to make this solution Compact and Efficient. The tracking was not so hard to achieve as we already had our custom SDK for that. Achieving the anti-theft alarm and two power sources took some tweak in the hardware design and development side.
These challenges were a learning path for our team which in end given the intended results.
